We're a medium-sized, suburban public library and our Friends do a great job of running used book sales. This year they will raise about $75,000 from book sales alone.

Our prices are pretty typical, 50¢ for paperbacks, $1 for hardbacks, $4 a grocery bag on the last afternoon of the sale. We also have a "quality" corner that sells books from $2 up to $100.

The Friends have been selling items online as well. We have gotten as high as $300 for a library discard and recently sold a discarded art book online to a university library for $100.

We're also doing well with a weekly book cart in our lobby. Volunteers sign up to sit next to a regular book cart filled with fresh copies of recently donated items. They could be coffee table books, book club best sellers, or just new looking items. Those sell for $2 bucks each and we'll make about $10,000 off of that cart this year.
