Technical Service Librarian/System Administrator
$3,746 - $5,057/mo with excellent benefits
This is a management position responsible for organizing and supervising
the Technical Services Department of the library.
Examples of essential job duties include: administration of the Horizon
automated library system. Establishes all routines and organizes work
flow for the department. Catalog and process materials that are added
to the collection of the library. Assists in selection of materials
to be added to the collection which would include reading reviews of new
materials, keeping informed of developments in assigned subject areas,
being aware of fields in which the library user is seeking information,
and keeping the collection balanced overall. Assists in the evaluation
of materials which are already a part of the collection using the
techniques established for selection as well as identifying materials
for repair or replacement, and areas which need updating of information.
Participate in professional organizations and in related community
activities. Staff the public information desk assisting patrons in the
use of the library. Supervises staff and performs other duties as
assigned.
The ideal candidate should have the following knowledge, skills, and
ability: considerable knowledge of the principles, objectives,
organization methods, and techniques of public library administration;
considerable knowledge of a wide range of books, authors, and knowledge
of reader interest levels; knowledge of administrative methods and
practices in library operations; knowledge of an automated library
system (SirsiDynix Horizon preferred); considerable knowledge of
computers including servers, networks and SQL desired; communicate
clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing; ability to train
others; recognize and set priorities, and plan, organize and coordinate
own work; establish and maintain effective working relationships with
the public, subordinates, co-workers and supervisors; provide excellent
customer service; and work a varied schedule of hours including evenings
and weekends.
Minimum qualifications include: Master's Degree in Library/Information
Science from an accredited school of librarianship and certification by
Washington State Library Commission is required. Minimum of three years
progressive professional library experience, including administration of
an automated library system. Must possess valid motor vehicle
operator's license.
