[Publib] Mystery Writers!

I'm not widely read in mysteries, but I do have an anthropology background.
I *love* Tony Hillerman and Alexander McCall Smith. Hillerman is best loved
for his Navajo/Hopi mysteries, which I find particularly striking for their
evocation of landscape (I've never actually been to the Southwest, but Tony
Hillerman makes me feel like I have). Alexander McCall Smith's _No. 1 Ladies
Detective Agency_ series is set in Botswana (SW Africa), and features a
well-drawn female African detective (albeit written by a white male). The
Ladies Detective cases tend to be personal rather than hard-core murder
stories, which is nice for the gentler reade who still likes a good puzzle.

I'm also a huge Dorothy Sayers fan, largely thanks to the BBC TV adaptations
of the Lord Peter Wimsey/Harriet Vane stories starring Edward Petherbridge.

Thanks for asking!
