[Publib] Curious question

I guess I am confused about trashy books. I buy what the patrons want to read.
In librarianship 101 I was taught never to make a judgment on what anyone wanted to read.
After all they pay my salary. If that is true, what is a trashy book?

Another take on libraries' buying trashy books: If your library buys a hot trashy book, and 11 people read it, then that's as many as ten copies that the author did not sell. If 26 read it, then maybe 25, who might have bought it, will not (of course, not quite all of them would have spent the bucks). So, do your part to hurt the profiteer. Buy one copy.

Then, weed as soon as the outside of the book matches the contents.
