  Brilliant list of ideas, Dale!
  I especially appreciate the thought we should listen to each other, our patrons, and the market. Maintaining old books on the shelf costs money, time, and aggravation and, if you’re a popular lending library—circulations. 
  I’m always surprised at the stunned reaction when I tell a patron that I’ll obtain and add requested material, if available, to the collection. 
   “I care what they think? The library cares? Their input matters?” 
  Since they pay the bills, I should think so!
