Hallett Movers http://www.hallettmovers.com/ have the ability to move
entire ranges of shelving and can speed up the process by which
recarpeting, remodeling and other work requiring the internal shifting
of collections. The link above contains a video clip showing how the
range moving works. I've used Hallett three times already and can say
that the professionalism and experience they bring to the job is
extremely valuable. It enabled my staff to focus attention on
organizing, planning and powering up computer service stations rather
than sweating blood via the lugging and hauling of hundreds of thousands
of books. --- There are other firms that may use the range mover option.
I can't say that Hallett is the "only game in town".

My thanks for those responses already received, but it would help if any
additional responses went to the lists, and not to me directly, so that
my colleague who is interested in the information will see them
directly. I will forward those responses that were sent to me alone.
As it happens, the Madison Heights Public Library will be undergoing
some improvements which will involve new carpet, contingent on formal
Council approval next month, but we will be boxing books and removing
shelving completely, in light of asbestos abatement issues. My fellow
Director is looking at addressing carpet replacement in her building by
moving stacks.
Thanks once again for your assistance.
