[Publib] Kids Computer Game Setup

We had this same problem with constantly swapping out CDs for kids in the
children's room. It's hard on the CDs in addition to being really
time-consuming for staff. Our tech person recommended a CD-sharing product
called CD-ROM Emulator 3.0 Network. This software allows a network
administrator to capture CD and DVD images from a local optical disk and
store them on the fileserver. Network workstations running the client
software can load these images. To the workstation operating system and all
the software running on it, the loaded CD image looks like a physical CD-ROM
drive mounted on the local PC. We had to add some extra drive space on our
server to accommodate the memory, but it has worked out beautifully for us.
We've been using it for more than a year, and have had no problems at all.
The installation of new games is a bit time-consuming and complicated, but
once it's installed, you're good to go.

Subject: [Publib] Kids Computer Game Setup
Hello,
Currently we have 5 computers that are designated for games in the
Children's Room. In the past, when we have recieved a game disc, we have
loaded it onto the computer and saved the icon to the desktop. Kids then
have to come to the Desk, request the cd for the game and then go to the
designated computer. In an effort to move away from using the cd's which
are always needing repair, we have purchased Alcohol Soft 120 as a game
"server." It seemed that this software was pretty highly recommended. Now,
we are testing this software on one of our pc's and the games keep coming
unmounted and it is requiring a LOT of work to keep this up and running.
What are other libraries doing as far as computer games for kids? How do you
have this set up? Are you using a game server? Is there a product you
recommend? Do you just use the cd's as in our first scenario? ANY advice
is appreciated as this is a large issue for us!
Thanks so much,
Candice Y. Gwin
