EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Graduation from an accredited college or university with an MLS degree and
at least one year of experience in library operations.  Experience working
in a children's department in a public library is preferred. Courses or
background in Children's Literature, Storytelling, Puppetry, Child
Development, or Children's Services a plus.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Skill in the operation of standard office tools and equipment.  Knowledge of
the principles, practices and tools of library science.  Knowledge of
library equipment.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with the public, community groups and other employees; ability
to work independently using initiative and judgment; ability to train and
coordinate tasks of employees; ability to set priorities; ability to
communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing. 

JOB DUTIES

Surveys and analyzes public needs and demands in order to assess and select
print and non-print materials for the library.  Administers and monitors a
portion of the book budget.  Conducts library tours, story hours, internet
classes and special workshops.  Plans, coordinates and implements special
library programs.  Analyzes research problems, interprets and evaluates the
data in order to make recommendations for further research.  Supervises
staff and is responsible for building, contents and function of library on
nights, weekends and other designated times.
