Mary Jane was among the most forthright and articulate librarians with
whom I have had the privilege to work. She was a valuable mentor to me
in my early years on Council. I could use her words of wisdom right
now. Mary Jane will be sorely missed. James B. Casey --

Some of you may remember Mary Jane. I was just informed she died today
after
a struggle with cancer. I will forward more information as it becomes
available.
I just did a Google search of our list and found many wonderful messages
from Mary Jane, who was very active in an online faith community, as
well.
My favorite is her reply when John Berry of LJ dismissed PUBLIB'ers as
gadflies:

Perhaps at the PUBLIB social you folks can lift a glass to Mary Jane and
John Iliff. I know they would appreciate that. (I will even toast from
here--just IM or call me.) Maybe in fact we should take time at every
PUBLIB
event to welcome the new and bid farewell to the departed.
