[Publib] bookmobile alternatives

We created the deposit collections pretty much with the intention of serving
the folks at those locations. We use mostly paperback donations for the
deposit collections and do minimal processing, mostly just putting a sticker
on the books indicating that they are there courtesy of the Handley Regional
Library. We just do a count of items delivered and don't really expect to
get any of them back.
For others in the vicinity of where our bookmobile traveled, the largest
bookmobile stop is now served by the library where I work, a 35,000-square
foot full-service facility that we opened in 2001. Otherwise our bookmobile
circulation had steadily decreased for the remaining three years, I beleive
it was, before we took it off the road altogether. We do have plans in our
long-range planning for a branch library in the northern end of Frederick
County, where we had two stops for the bookmobile.

Deposit collections are certainly one alternative to the bookmobile.
However, I wonder how people who don't use the locations mentioned would get
access to them.
I have never worked on a bookmobile (although a couple of the public
libraries I worked for had bookmobile service), but don't they serve
communities outside of instituions?
