Joan---

Our Pages work about 23 hours per week, so I hope this isn't like comparing
apples and oranges with your situation. But as part-time city employees,
Pages earn 4 hours annual leave and 4 hours sick leave per month. They can
schedule time off just like anyone else, as long as they have leave balances
accrued. We're real careful about approving leave without pay, however,
because it can easily get out of control unless it's an emergency situation
like a serious illness.

It's hard to impress on the minds of young people (most of our Pages are
high school or college age) that they need to SAVE UP their annual leave
time and not fritter it away for just any little reason. If they save it,
they'll actually be able to take a vacation during the summer and get paid
for it! Now that's a novel idea!

Good luck!
