[Publib] Addressing current and hot topics

My library is investigating ways to better respond to current and hot topics and titles in our programming, collections and marketing. We would like to develop mechanisms to alert the appropriate staff when something is a hot topic in the nation and in our community.  
   
  We'd like to interview libraries that have such systems in place and that respond quickly and effectively to current topics. Does anyone know of a library that does this particularly well (could be yours!)?
