They had a big pow-wow about the bird flu in my city, but the library wasn't invited to attend!

Have public health officials weighed in on this? I suggest we follow their advice, which is why they get the big bucks.

I was a mere child during the polio epidemic scares of the forties and fifties, but I don't recall any restriction on library service. Perhaps any health historians can provide information about what happened when influenza was rampant following WWI.

Is anyone aware of planning efforts underway for the role libraries would play, and the ways in which they would manage internally, in the event of a bird flu outbreak? Do we close? Do we stay open and limit patron contact? Do we let books be checked out and, as a result of the possibility of their being returned laden with germs, not require them to be returned? Any assistance or thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thank you.
