One kid at a time, one kid at a time! But Colleen, I think you really hit on it, we joke around and tease, but I think there's a lot of truth to it, and maybe it's because we don't think that anyone else could love such a unique profession like we do. Then with the stereotypes on top of it, maybe we are shying away from what we think might be a hard sell. But, I think you're right that if we treat it more seriously and just try to get the word out about what a cool career it can be, it can only benefit others!

I just wanted to add that after reading all of these messages, I have to agree with Joshua.  In retrospect, it is kind of sad.  It's all given me a new goal.  When I tease my brothers and my friends that their children are librarians in the making, it will now be more serious.  I'll try and show the parents how challenging the profession is and how satisfying it can be at the same time.  Maybe, just maybe, it will make a difference in some child's choice of career.  (Sounds really good doesn't it <G>)
