[Publib] Why librarianship?

I didn't think I was going to be a librarian when I was younger -- I thought I was going to be a
free-lance writer. But I was too nerve-wracked to do that. I did absolutely love public libraries when I
was a kid because I had the feeling that every idea in the world was in the library, and no-one could stop you from finding out about them. (Growing up in a conservative household, that was
an exciting freedom.)

I'm trying hard to create a library that I would have enjoyed as a kid -- a welcoming place where a person's inquisitive spirit is treated with respect.

And, not incidentally, it is important to me that my job allows "service" to be part of my daily life.
