I do have a deaf teen who uses the computer, when he is not at school, to keep up with friends.
I don't know what people are using the computer for and as long as it is legal I don't care what they are doing.  I have an 80 year old who spends a lot of computer time to email back and forth with her brother who is older and in poor health.  Is that less important than resumes?  
I agree, it is not up to us to judge what they do or the importance of what patrons are doing.
My job is to see that all who come in here are treated equally by staff.

The whole issue of judgment reminds me of a patron at My Former Workplace - a mother who came in nightly with her son's high school homework assignment and needed help doing research and finding information. Finally the librarians, so frustrated that the mother didn't seem to think it was bad that she was doing the legwork for her son, blurted out that she should probably bring her son in next time so that he could do his own homework. It turned out that the son had a terminal illness and was bedridden. His mother was helping him achieve his goal of graduating from high school. What if the patron is checking MySpace because their MySpace friend might not be around much longer and it's their only way to communicate? It's just not up to us to judge how our patron's use the library - as long as that use is legal!

Are non fiction reading patrons annoyed when fiction readers check out books and they have to wait their turn at the circ desk?   Are non fiction readers and fiction readers treated the same? 

Just trying to put the computer problems into perspective. :-)
