[Publib] ? Tech services question

We have a similar practice to check for errors. While it is impossible to
catch all mistakes, I figure if I catch 4 or 5 per cart (and I nearly always
do), it saves the necessity of recalling those books at a later date. I
believe the time it takes to check pays off in the end.

At times I do feel like staff resent this step. I try to explain that we
are checking for a variety of things that might have been missed the first
time...access points, punctuation, typos, and labels.

Subject: [Publib] ? Tech services question

Good morning,
I would like to hear the practices of other public libraries' Tech
Services departments. We currently have staff edit carts of just
cataloged items to check for errors (before they are processed).
Wondering if this step can be skipped in the interest of saving time--is
it necessary to double check other staff's work? Would like your
collective professional opinions on this before I suggest any changes to
staff. Thanks much!
