We began ciriuclating magazines about two years ago and decided not use any
sort of plastic or metal cover for them when they go out. The only thing we
do is tape the edges and the spine. Surprisingly, they have held up pretty
well.

Subject: [Publib] files for circulating magazines?

A question from a colleague at one of our other branch libraries:

Here's the deal.....I would like to replace
all of my old raggedy looking silver metal Princeton files that house all
of
our magazine collection. I would like to replace them with files that have
a
label holder on the front. Years ago I thought metal was the only way to
go
since the magazines were pretty high traffic items. However with such
drastic change of usage I'm wondering if a file constructed of a tough
plastic wouldn't work just as well. I would like to hear any suggestions
they might
have about files for magazines that circulate. Our magazine collection is
in
a public area where patron can easily access them. Thanks for all your
  help.....Jo @ Powell
