 What do you do when.....

You learn that your entire library system has only one copy of THE
book group book of the season and there are already 17 holds?

Your ILL staff tells you they've had 10 requests for the same book
this week and after a little sleuthing you learn a faculty member has
strongly recommended it to her entire class, assuring them that the
library has it available.

The Newberry/Pulitzer/Fill the Blank Prize-winning is one you've never
heard of and there isn't a single copy in the library.

Don't worry, you are not alone!

Join the RUSA CODES/RSS Dual Assignments Discussion Group Saturday,
June 24, from 10:30 to 12:30, Room 236-236 in the Morial Convention
Center for a fun and exciting discussion on meeting patron requests.

"Instant Gratification: Immediately Meeting Patron Needs in Public and
Academic Libraries"
How do libraries respond to user demands for materials that are wanted
immediately or for additional copies of very popular works? Rush order
them or rely on interlibrary loan and lengthy hold lists? An
interesting topic to explore with colleagues.

All librarians are welcome to join the discussion. Come and hear what
your colleagues have done and/or share your stories of "instant
gratification."

The Dual Assignments Discussion Group is a chance for librarians who
have collection development and other responsibilities, such as
reference, instruction and readers' advisory. In addition to
discussing meeting patron requests, we're sure to touch on other
topics of interest to librarians who balance collection development
with other duties.
