Can anyone give me any pointers, or examples of thank
> you letters as a follow up to a job interview? Oddly
> enough, I've never written one.

Write it by hand. Say something true, and nice. It may be hard to think of
something, but give it a shot. If you type your note, it will appear that
you have merely printed out a sentiment that you've sent to others--especially
if this is true. You might consider actually sending a card. Make sure it
isn't the wrong kind: "In Sympathy for your Loss" isn't real good for a
thank-you, although it may describe your feelings if you didn't get the job.
Don't mention body parts or politics; don't threaten to sue, and don't mention
any relatives you may have on the library board.

A good sample:

Dear Mr. Smith,

I appreciate the time you and the members of the committee spent on the
interviews for the librarian position. I felt very comfortable through the whole
of it and feel that the questions were fair. You have assembled a good
staff there and anyone would be fortunate to work with them, and you.

A less good sample:

Dear John,

Thanks for the interview. I was expecting a lunch, but look I got from your
"secretary" made up for that. Is that even technically a dress she was
wearing? I notice she has the same last name as you. Coincidence? By the way,
if I don't get the job, it won't matter. I didn't really want to live in
Oregon; there's this deal with warrants that won't die off there, and the water
is too cold for surfing. So don't, you know, feel too bad if you have to
give the job to one of your other relatives. If you do choose me, can you move
my furniture? Oh, and you owe me six bucks for parking. See you around.
