There are a few pictures on our website of our children's and Teen
areas: http://www.elmhurstpubliclibrary.org/aboutepl/buildinginfo.html .
Our Kids' Library has a park motif, since we are located in a park.
There are wooden cutouts to make the columns look like trees, a fish
tank, and lots of animal and bug cutouts on the furnishings. The
preschool area has curved wooden shelving that corrals the little ones
and has a puppet stage and lots of puppets and stuffed animals for
creative play. (And we have a washer and dryer to keep them from getting
too disgusting!) The highlight is the storytime room, which is
octagonal and looks kind of like a frog pond, with a carpet "lily pad"
and a wonderful storyteller's throne that everyone wants to sit in.
There are wooden cutouts of cattails and frogs around the base of the
room, and two doors open up to reveal either a park or a castle mural.
Our Teen area has a few booths and some sectional furniture than can be
(and is) moved around into a variey of configurations. We've improved
it since the photos were taken with several display units and a LOT of
graphic novels.
