Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a
summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds
float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.

We have a customer objecting to a graphic novel in the YA collection. My
city manager has asked me to check to see whether other small public
libraries in rural areas have graphic novel collections, where they are
shelved, and which libraries have had objections filed. Please excuse any
cross-posting.

We are a small rural library with a city population of about 5500 and a
county population of around 12000. We have graphic novels in both the main
library and the branch. We divide the GNs into juvenile, YA, and adult
depending on content. Each is housed in that collection. We were warned
before we started the collections to expect complaints and made sure our
policies were in place to address them. I have a complaint on my desk right
now regarding an adult GN. Upon checking it is marked accordingly, has a
parental warning advisory label, and is housed in the correct location, so I
plan on taking no further action unless the patron wants to file a written
complaint. Increased circulation stats and growth in teen department usage
more than offset one complaint to date. We had the collection about 3 years.
