The July/August issue of Pages magazine recently featured Kathy Reichs, author of the series about forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan. The article made mention several times that Reichs uses old cases of hers as the basis not only for her novels but also the series "Bones."
I felt a bit queasy about that. I may be overreacting, but it seems to me that she shouldn't be using actual cases that can be identified. Her books have the typical disclaimer about the events being a work of fiction etc., but she's also saying in the article that the books are based on actual cases from her files.
I'm curious to know what other folks think of this.
