Hi-

You can buy a USB hub with a serial cable. That would fix your problem.
We have not begun using flash drives for the public, but many of us have
them on staff. (I'm on my second, having killed one already...)

I am curious how libraries handle this situation:
There is a patron who would like to type a cover letter, resume, or
whatever, something that would take more time than is allocated for the
internet/general use computers; thus, the patron must use the word
processing computer. Then, the patron must email it to someone and/or
save a copy for herself. The word processing computer does not have
internet access and patrons may not save information on that computer
(or that computer's disk drive doesn't work and it is too old to have a
USB port).
Do any libraries have this situation? One of the libraries where I
work does, but the situation hasn't come up when I have been there.
I have dealt with a situation where the computer's disk drive/USB port
doesn't allow outside access for saving. However, the computer had the
internet, so I showed the patron how to save the document to the
desktop, and add the file as an email attachment and send it to herself.
