[Publib] Administration of city cable channel and city website

I have been asked by my city's management if the library would be
willing to take over the administration of the city's website and the
city (municipal) cable channel (the one used to telecast City Council
meetings and other city information). We are being asked to do this
because we are the information people, not because of our technical
expertise. In our response, we can request the resources necessary to
undertake these tasks, as well as delineate the support that will be
necessary from the city's IT Department. We currently have nothing to
do with either, other than submitting slides to run on the cable
channel. We have our own website independent of the city's, which we
manage with a combination of contracted and on-site resources.

We are in a city of about 65,000 and we are primarily a bedroom
community. We have one IT person assigned to the library, but he
already has too much to do. I don't want to take this on unless we can
succeed and meet the expectations of the city administration, as they
are not currently being met, hence the request for us to take it over.
Have other libraries taken on either of these tasks? If you have,
please share your insights, the pleasures, and pitfalls by contacting me
directly or on the list. Thanks.
