This is precisely the reason that our Library will NOT be renewing our 
membership in ALA.  The confirmation of Judge Alito has absolutely
nothing 
to do with librarianship and how we serve our communities and our
patrons.

That is an interesting conclusion given that millions upon millions of
dollars of ALA money and ACLU money have been poured into legal battles
in Federal courts to overturn such legislation as CIPA and to protect
privacy rights.  Votes by Supreme Court Justices -- lifetime appointees
-- have already had a huge impact upon the work of libraries (public,
school and academic).
