We also had a hundred year celebration that coincided with the opening
of our new library so we created a time capsule space behind where the
cornerstone was placed. We are still collecting items from the community
to place in the time capsule from the years 2005-06 and will seal it on
June 21st - summer solstice. We are registering this with the
Smithsonian so that it will indeed be opened in fifty years and not
forgotten. You could celebrate your hundred years by burying a time
capsule with 100 years of information to be opened at a predetermined
time. Just a suggestion!

We (Lansing Public Library, Lansing, IL) are celebrating our 70th
anniversary this year.

This coincides with the anniversary of the Historic Ford Hangar at
Lansing Airport. The village is planning several events, and there are
even going to be fiberglass "tri-motor" planes in front of businesses.

We made our theme for the year "Lansing Public Library Soars at 70"

To celebrate all year, we're highlighting 70 programs or "flights."
Many are events we already had planned: book discussions, computer
classes, youth events, teen events, adult events.
The summer reading program will also have a flight theme too.

We're using 1 basic flyer, and will display all 70 (we've got 14 posted
so far) on a large wall near our lower level entrance.
We're also having a trivia contest, with a new question each month.

So far, this has been really successful for publicity. Right when we
announced it, the local paper wanted a list of all 70 events. (We
haven't finalized all 70 yet.) Here's what we have planned so far...

I posted one of the flyers on my blog

ml

I've been told that event #70 will be in December, and will be a
reception.

The Howell Carnegie Library will be 100 years old this November.
We are looking for ideas on how to celebrate!

We held a tea when we turned 80 and invited some local folks to
reminisce. We videotaped the tea party. It was a bit surprising to
find out that over 60 years ago, teens were meeting behind the boston
fern to canoodle!

We have tossed around having more than one event, spread out a
bit so we can focus on children or specific services.

Any and all suggestions are appreciated!
