Oops, I left in the time note that I sent to the Oregon library discussion list. Now you all know about what time it will happen if you are in Oregon

I haven't seen this on the list today and thought that you might like to know that tomorrow at about 10:00 a.m. we are going to take a break at ALA Council III and call our senators and representatives (as stated below signature). We are going to ask them to support the Senate version of the Patriot Act legislation. This is about 8:00 a.m. for you. I hope you will join us and call Washington D.C. sometime tomorrow.

For direct-line phone numbers for Congressional Offices go to: http://capwiz.com/ala/home/

ALAWON: American Library Association Washington Office Newsline

Volume 15, Number 8

January 24, 2006

In This Issue: REMINDER: PATRIOT Act Call-In TOMORROW, January 25!

PLEASE DISTRIBUTE WIDELY

Nationwide PATRIOT Call in Day TOMORROW, January 25th

Please join millions of library and civil liberties supporters

across the country by participating in National PATRIOT Call-In

Day, tomorrow, Wednesday January 25th.

In San Antonio, Members of ALA Council will lead a group of more than
100

librarians in simultaneously phoning members of Congress and

asking them to repair the USA PATRIOT Act.

Your phone calls to your senators and representative on January 25

in support of meaningful reforms to the PATRIOT Act can make the

difference in restoring library patron privacy. Please ask your

Members of Congress to support the Senate language reauthorizing

the PATRIOT Act. The Senate bill better protects Americans' and

library patrons' civil liberties -- without sacrificing any

security.

When you call, ask Members of Congress to fight for:

The inclusion of language in Section 215 requiring a statement of

fact linking the person whose records are sought to a terrorism

investigation.

The inclusion of language allowing a Section 215 recipient to

pose a meaningful challenge to a FISA Court order.

The inclusion of language allowing a Section 505 recipient to

pose a meaningful challenge to National Security Letter.

Find talking points and direct-line phone numbers for

Congressional Offices at: http://capwiz.com/ala/home/

Or use the Capitol Switchboard number: 202-224-3121

Please spread the word!
