[Publib] Sunday Hours

If public demand --- giving your patrons what they want --- is of any
consequence in your deliberations, gather statistics from those
libraries that offer Sunday hours. In every public library in which I
have worked
where Sunday hours were in place (usually 1-5 PM) and every public
library
I know of over nearly 33 years in librarianship, Sunday hours have
always
been the busiest single hours among those offered.

In this age where both parents must work to make ends meet and kids are
under increased pressure to do well in school as well as participate in
a myriad of extra curricular and social activities, library hours of
service on evenings and weekends are increasingly valuable.

Subject: [Publib] Sunday Hours

Our library has been asked by the Board of Trustees to study the
feasibility of Sunday hours. We have formed a committee with staff,
community, Board, and Friends representatives and we will soon have our
first meeting.

We want to keep the meetings focused yet we recognize that this could be
a controversial issue. Any suggestions as to how we should go about
this task will be greatly appreciated.
