*ANNOUNCEMENT*
Following several months of beta, we have just released and available
for use by the public and public libraries, a free, web-based,
real-time, on-demand, mapping and locator system, www.libraries411.com.
It consists of proven mapping technologies combined with a number of
technology innovations including, a database containing more than 20,000
PL locations for the US and Canada.
For public libraries, Libraries411.com:
1) provides a free, 24x7, on-demand, mapping and locator service that:
a. includes custom, interactive and searchable maps of all your PL
locations that can in turn, be linked to your PL website(s), and
b. attracts users to our PL locations and our web site through the
publicly searchable directory and maps at http://www.libraries411.com
2) delivers a unique, self-service functionality ("for public libraries"
section) that enables PL's to:
a. achieve “pin-point” accuracy for their Library map location(s) ;
b. provide library customers (and potential customers) with:
i. “closest” Branch searches (by ZIP/Postal code),
ii. keep Library information (hours of service, contact details, etc.)
up-to-date;
3) As Library information is updated (eg., location repositioned or
information updated), the 411 system instantly updates the Library
information on both the generic Libraries411 maps
(www.libraries411.com), and any custom map links employed (at a
Library's discretion) on the Library’s web site.
4) Unlike other map solutions, there is no direct or indirect
"advertising" on the custom interactive and searchable maps created
for/displayed via your Library's web site.
From a public perspective, one of libraries411.com unique features is
that the default map that a visitor sees is generally based on their
present physical location.
For instance, an Orlando visitor to libraries411.com, automatically sees
a map of Orlando (and related PL locations) but, simultaneous 411 site
visitors from Kansas City, Oakland, Edmonton, etc. will see the map and
library locations specific to their locations.
Feedback (general reaction, improvement(s) suggestions, problems, etc.)
is welcome.
Note: A capability to add and delete library locations is currently in
development.
