Hi Leila-

They do too have a retiree membership see:

http://www.ala.org/ala/ourassociation/membership/continuingmembership/co
ntmember.htm

ALA Continuing Members

ALA offers all members who have at least 25 consecutive years of
membership the opportunity to receive ongoing membership benefits upon
retirement as an ALA Continuing Member. This special membership is
ALA's way of thanking members for their years of dedication and service
to the library community. ALA Continuing Membership includes free ALA
basic dues for life. Division and round table dues are not included.

ALA Continuing Members enjoy full rights and privileges in ALA,
including the opportunity to sit on ALA committees and contribute to the
ongoing work of the Association. 11 issues of American Libraries are
included as a gift subscription. Access to ALA's member discounts for
products, services, programs, and events is also continuous. ALA
Continuing Members are encouraged to maintain memberships in divisions
and round tables.

If you would like more information about ALA Continuing Membership, or
to learn if you are eligible based on at least 25 years of uninterrupted
membership, please contact our Member and Customer Service Center at
800-545-2433 ext 5 or membership at ala.org. To notify ALA when you have
retired and would like to begin ALA Continuing Membership, please
download the ALA Continuing Membership Notice, below, and mail or fax to
us. We will notify you of your eligibility with 4-6 weeks.

ALA Continuing Members are vital and integral to the ongoing success of
the Association. We are eager to welcome you into these ranks.

Now...if you don't have 25 years, there is still the category for "Other
Members" which is defined in the ALA Bylaws as "Other Members--those who
are inactive, retired, or unemployed, or are employed full- or part-time
in library service or related activities at a salary of less than
$20,000 per annum." That salary amount will be on the ballot to rise to
$25,000. The membership form on the web site says: "RETIRED MEMBERS
Includes those who have retired from library and information services or
related activities. $35"

What ALA does NOT have is a separate conference registration rate for
retires/other members. That, I cannot help with!

We will miss you!

Michael

Dear Karen and all,
Hope you have a great publib get-together. I miss all of you and wish I
could be there. Did you know that ALA has no retiree membership? So I
am
no longer a member.
Have a great time!
