I was browsing for bookdrop carts when I came across a sort of minicart designed to hold a couple of the handbaskets. This one happens to be in Highsmith, but others may have it too. The baskets are sold separately. Might be a good ADA device.
The Highsmith number is L71-52425 if anyone wants to look it up. They run about $100 dollars plus $10 for the basket (it can hold two). http://tinyurl.com/depo7

Hi All - First time poster.
Our library has had a patron request for rolling shopping-style carts at the library for more convenient browsing. We have a large senior patron-base who find it difficult carrying material for extended periods of time. At present we have browsing baskets for them to use but there's still the heaviness-factor of the materials in the baskets.
There are pros and cons for sure. The convenience for our patrons and good customer service is a plus. The possibility of more circulation is another. However, our aisles aren't wide enough for more than one cart and would create a barrier in the aisles. Patrons would want to take them out of the building to their cars and then staff would have to retrieve them before they disappear. Children would play with them ... or in them. Then there is the storage issue. Where to store them so they would be visible for patron use but not in the way of other library activities?
Does any library currently have these carts and if so how have you addressed these types of issues? Is it worth it in the end?
Thanks,
David
