Position: Library Director
The City of Dover is seeking a dynamic individual to direct
the Dover Public Library, a 17,090 square foot building in
the heart of historic Dover, the state capital. The library
serves a population of approximately 60,000 with a staff of
24, including 7 with ALA-accredited MLS degrees. The annual
budget is $1.3 million from city, county, state, and federal
sources. The library is fully automated (SIRSI) in
cooperation with libraries in Kent County and Sussex County,
DE. In fiscal year 2006, over 233,000 people visited the
library and almost 400,000 items were borrowed. The City of
Dover is currently planning to build a regional library
sized between 50,000 - 75,000 square feet. The director is
responsible for planning, organizing, directing and
coordinating all activities of the library. General policies
are determined in consultation with and approval of city
management.
Requirements include experience in public relations,
fundraising, budgeting, and personnel management with a
strong commitment to public service. Preference will be
given to candidates with experience in library building
projects. Requires an ALA-accredited MLS. Also requires at
least eight years of professional library experience with
three of those years in a management capacity.
Hiring Range: $47,528 - $56,591 - Salary Range: $47,528 -
$74,717
