We also have Horizon and have assigned each computer a barcode, but we have
cards for each computer. We "check out" the cards to each patron as they
request a computer. These cards have their own catagory or item type in our
monthly report, so I can simply look at the monthly reports to find out how
many computer users we have had. There are no lists or sign in pages to mess
with. When the patrons are finished we just check the cards back in. I
borrowed this from a large library, but it is working much better for us
then the sign in sheets.

We use our circ system to track them.
We use Horizon. I had our system person create a bib record for In-house
computer use. I attached a barcode to the record, stuck the barcode in our
sign-in binder, and then at the end of each day, went to check-in on Horizon
and did in-house uses for each person who signed in that day. We then put a
line through the day's sign-ins so we know they've been counted. It takes
less than 30 seconds a day.
I shred the sign-ins the next week (we keep them until then in case
something shows up on a computer and we need to track down who did it).
This tracks the uses without counting them as check-outs and the uses show
up on our monthly and yearly reports.

For our annual reports for the state, it is handy to know how many times the
public access computers are used each day. Does anyone know of software
that keeps track of login/logon's? I suspect that login with library card
barcode is best. It would be great if someone had shareware, but that's
probably not realistic.
