[Publib] Manners

This reminded me of a time when a patron asked me for something in a demanding, expectant way and I said, "What's the magic word?" He looked at me like I was out of my mind. I don't know what made me say it - it just flew out of my mouth before I could stop it! :-)

Subject: [Publib] Manners

This is something that has been bugging me for a while now, so I thought I would ask & see if anyone has any techniques to deal with - or see if I am just being picky!!

As 'keeper of the headphones' (& also the male bathroom key - it's in a corner, vandalism has been a problem, so we keep it locked), I am asked for these items. Normally I get ' I need headphones', or just 'headphones' - no please, no thank you, nothing else. Now I am only just in my 30s (emphasis on JUST!), & I was raised to be polite & say please & thank you, so it does irk me somewhat when this happens. There are, of course, people who are polite, but it seems like more & more who are losing their manners.
