Sally,
What a great story! We have them here at my library and I've had the training. In the past I've wondered if I would be able to actually use the machine or if I'd "forget" how. Your story gives me the confidence that I hope I will never need. Thanks!

It's hard for me to be objective about this. On April 7, 1999, my very healthy, with absolutely no risk factors, 51 year old husband experienced what's called Sudden Cardiac Death. Because a college kid working PT where he went down wasn't afraid to try the portable defibrillator they had installed 2 weeks earlier, you will see my husband with me at many library events.
By the time the paramedics got there--and they got there relatively quickly--he would have suffered irreversible brain damage, if he'd survived. With the instructions included in the AED 's we have at our library, I would not hesitate to try to help.
I say a prayer of gratitude for that kid every, every day.
