[Publib] Defibrillators

Hi Gerry,

We have defibrillators in several of our branch libraries as well as in
other county buildings. Several of our staff members volunteered to be
trained in their use. We have not had to use the defibrillators;
however, one of our staff members did use the CPR training she received
to resuscitate a someone who collapsed in front of her.

I believe our county legal experts dealt with the liability issues but
don't know what they decided. Obviously they thought it was okay to have
them installed since we have them in several libraries and the other
buildings.

Hope this helps,

Gair

Subject: [Publib] Defibrillators

Are there any libraries on this list that have defibrillators available
for use if a patron or employee needs emergency assistance? It has been
shown that the rapid use of a defibrillator AND quality cardiopulmonary
resuscitation (CPR) can improve the survivability and outcome of
patients that suffer from sudden cardiac arrest. What are the liability
concerns? I'd be interested to know if this has been considered by
other libraries. I would be happy to compile responses and post them.
