Can anyone provide any guidance on the suitability of a vertical platform
lift in public libraries?

We are a public library with a new addition (2 stories plus basement) and
our elevator contractor is recommending the installation of a platform lift
to provide access to the second floor. Their brochure says that common
applications for these lifts include "churches, libraries, restaurants, and
schools."

But in contacting both state and regional ADA authorities, we've been told
that a platform lift does not meet ADA guidelines for an addition to a
public library.

I realize there are some grey areas in the law here, and that different
states have different requirements, but even so, we would love to hear from
any libraries that have not installed a full elevator. The difference in
price is $40k or so!
