The School of Library and Information Science at The University of
Iowa invites applications for digital librarian fellowships in its MA
program. Fellowships will be awarded to students who clearly
articulate career interests and goals related to digital libraries
and services. Preference will be given to those who have a
background/experience in computing/ information technology.
Ten fellows will be admitted in 2007, and another ten in 2008, to the
MA in Library and Information Science program with digital libraries
as the specialized track. Each fellowship offers approximately
$24,000 per calendar year along with fringe benefits. The Institute
of Museum and Library Services funds these fellowships through a
grant awarded to the University of Iowa School of Library and
Information Science. Students will be expected to contribute 20
hours per week to digital project work.
The Iowa program combines course work with project work giving
students a full range of learning opportunities in digital libraries
and services. A "clinical rotation model" will be followed in which
students will be required to contribute to two or three different
projects over the 1.5-year time period. Mentors who are seasoned
professionals and educators will guide students in each project.
Biweekly seminar sessions will bring together students, mentors and
faculty for broad exposure to a variety of digital projects.
