At our main library, we have restrooms designed for children (the toilets
are supposed to be at child height) that are in the children's library.
Years ago when I was investigating construction projects, I began to see
elementary schools and kindergarten facilities being built with these tiny
little toilets and sinks. They tend to put them between two kindergarten
classrooms; the teacher escorts the little kids there and "assists" as necessary. In
that way, the staff doesn't have to go far from the class when somebody
needs to go. The toilets were a laugh--only ten inches tall as opposed to the
standard ADA toilet which is at least 16 inches from the floor. But then, I
was also taken by surprise when going to ALA Annual and seeing the miniature
furniture in the exhibit area. I don't remember chairs like that when I was
small--I thought I had to climb a mountain to get onto one of those hardwood
seats. Do you remember having to get a boost to use a drinking fountain?
