Our last staff day we covered all of our emergency procedures. I think
everybody appreciated it, and it made me check into the procedures to
make sure we actually had them. I also purchased new first aid
equipment, flashlights, etc.

Subject: RE: [Publib] Staff Day
Hi Leora: My regional system recently sponsored a workshop to encourage
more systematic staff development days. And here are just some ideas
that surfaced for staff training day topics:
* Demonstrations of ways to keep current with library literature,
articles, trends, etc. Like setting journal alerts in EBSCO,
subscribing to online newsletters, visiting blogs, setting up RSS feeds
to favorite blogs, websites, etc.
* Demonstrations of wikis, podcasting, blogs, etc.
* Discussing Web2.0/Library2.0 concepts
* Looking at staff computer skills assessments with tools like
Tech Atlas (linked from Web Junction) and the fun kinds of
"test-your-knowledge" quizzes found on MS Office Online.

Subject: [Publib] Staff Day
Greetings!
I am thinking about our annual Staff Day, which will be held in May
2007, and am having trouble coming up with ideas. We have been doing
this for about 10 years now and I don't want to repeat the customer
service training, computer issues, stress on the job, etc. I was
thinking of doing something on Reader's Advisory but am not sure what.
Does anybody have any creative and work-related issues that staff might
enjoy? Thanks in advance.
