Have you tried kitty litter? Put the book in a box, pour some kitty litter over it and voila! This usually takes the 'funk' out.

Subject: [Publib] Stinky books
We are having problems with several patrons returning books that reek of cigarette, or some other kind of tobacco, smoke. Looking in the archives, I find an entry in which it is recommended that smelly books be put in a zip-lock bag with a fabric softener sheet. Being the modern librarian that I am, I am seeking *diversity* of opinion. Any other recommendations for treating books which have been perfumed with/by the evil weed?
Thanks.
