[Publib] 1st National Friends of the Libraries Week, October 22-28

Good morning Publibers!  
 
Many of you may already be aware of the 1st National Friends of the
Libraries Week, October 22-28.  Information for this first year event
was printed in the most recent FOLUSA News Update (Volume 29, Issue 4,
August 2006).  The front page headline reads, "FOLUSA and JanWay Partner
to Promote National Friends of the Libraries Week".  Please note that
this is the week after Teen Read Week.  
 
I believe all forms of libraries (public, academic, school, other)
recognize the true value of having an active and supporting Friends
group, as well as their active volunteers.  Well, this 1st National
event is a special way of recognizing your Friends, thanking your
Friends, boosting Friends membership and awareness.  In some cases, the
library is actually ordering special giveaways or thank you gifts to
honor their Friends and their success.  In other cases, the Friends
themselves are purchasing special gifts of thank you for current
members, as well as a way to increase membership.  Either way is a
win-win situation.
