Please note that the below listed position, taken from the City of Waterbury website, is for a CHILDREN'S LIBRARIAN. The position has been vacant for several months, as a result of the retirement of a previous employee. It is a full-time appointment for 37.5 hours per week with evening work required and occasional Saturday work appreciated.

OPEN COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION FOR: LIBRARIAN II
SALARY: $752.57 ~ $1024.15 /wk

IMPORTANT:
1. Veterans Veterans points will be awarded in accordance with the Connecticut State Statute. Five (5) for non-disabled veterans, ten
(10) for disabled veterans. Proper documentation must be submitted to the Personnel Director before the date of the examination.
2. Residents Residency points shall be added in accordance with the amendment to the Civil Service Rules and Regulations. Proper
documentation (Civil Service Office Request for Residency Points) must be submitted with application of employment. THIS
POSITION IS ELIGIBLE FOR RESIDENCY POINTS.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Performs professional work in a public library; Helps patrons in the selection of books and other
related materials; Conducts research required to answer questions in the specific subject area to which assigned. Examples:
Circulation Service; Young Adult Work; Adult Work; Childrens Work; Cataloging, etc.; Prepares booklists, bibliographies,
reports, or public relations information as needed; Reads and checks current book reviews, general and specialized, to be fully
informed about currently published books and materials; supervises the work of subordinates; Takes inventories; Keeps various
statistics; Attends professional meetings and keeps informed of current trends and professional techniques; does related work as
required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Good knowledge of professional library science techniques and
administration; good knowledge of methods of researching questions in various subject areas; good knowledge of classification;
ability to keep informed about currently published books and materials in ones assigned area for purposed of ordering and
collection development; ability to learn and follow guidelines and procedures for withdrawing materials from the collection in
ones assigned area; good knowledge of circulation systems, methods and procedures; some knowledge of and ability to learn a
computerized circulation system; ability to deal effectively with patrons and coworkers in an urban public library; good oral and
written communication ability; good physical condition.
IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION YOU MUST INDICATE ON YOUR APPLICATION THAT
AS OF THE CLOSING DATE YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCE: Graduation from a library school of
recognized standing with a masters degree in library science.
This position is covered under the written agreement between the City of Waterbury and the Waterbury City Employees Association.
The Parts and Weights for this examination will be determined prior to conducting the exam.
Individuals appointed shall be required to serve a working test period which will be, in effect, the final phase of the examination.
APPEAL PROCESS: An applicant may appeal a notice of rejection of his/her application to the Civil Service Commission
within seven (7) days of receipt of such notice.

application.
