We have an adult book club -- meets once a month.  We borrow copies of the
books selected for each member from our statewide consortium.  
This is important since we have several members who must have large print
and we can get the formats we need for each individual member.  We stay one
month ahead -- that is the next month's book is picked up at the meeting,
and we then begin the loan process for the next one.
This does prevent the group from reading the current best seller, but on the
other head the members have commented that it forces them to rethink
classics...
At times members of the group have decided they would like to see the movie
of the book or listen to an excerpt.  When that happens, we purchase the
video/DVD/audio for the collection from donations given by the group and
circulate them to the group members.

Some book club questions for the list
 
If your library has adult book clubs how do you provide the books? 
Does your library buy multiple copies or require participants to purchase
them?  
If the library buys copies do you process them and check them out to patrons
or do you loan them to book club members without processing?
 
I'd be very grateful for answers to these questions and any other
information about your book clubs that you'd like to pass along!
