Aquariums can be great but I would recommend either having someone knowledeable to care for it or be willing to educate yourself.  Do not rely on the pet store people to give you advice.  They are frequently either deceptive or simply wrong.  They will sell you that $200 plus mechanical filter when a simple sponge filter is much cheaper and easier to maintain.  Aquariums can be easy to keep with the right knowledge.  If you decide to install one, and would like some more detailed tips on mainaining it, I would be happy to help.
