[Publib] Library promotional items

I have to boast a little about a promotion our Friends did during National
Library Week. They had a "wrapper" designed and printed that fit around a
candy bar (same name as a famous chocolate town nearby to us). The wrapper
had the library name on the front in similar style to the candy bar, with
our hours and other information on the back (Where those dread calories
are). Each patron got one during that week. It was a huge hit.
The only downside might be that our Friends had to glue all the wrappers on
each candy bar. They sat for an afternoon and did about 600 of these things.
But we still get great feedback on them. They were able to buy them at a
local warehouse place, but some of them were also donated. And who doesn't
like candy?

Subject: [Publib] Library promotional items

Hello PubLib,

We are looking at library promotional items that are inexpensive enough to
be given away at outreach events. We have nice canvas bags from our
Foundation to sell, and we have tried magnets with library address and phone
on them. Pencils and pens are common. What else have you used with
success? What have you found that people will pick up, and then not throw
away? Is there one thing that works for a variety of audiences (adults,
Seniors, students) or do you have to get targeted things?

Thanks,

Hillary Theyer
