[Publib] Amazon

I'm guessing this varies from state to state, but I dont get sales tax on
Amazon purchases, period. In some states, nonprofits do not have sales tax
exemptions, by the waysomething that startled me when I first learned about
it.
I have to say I set up a corporate account in fifteen minutes, had two
vendors registered with my library within minutes, and found the process
easy. One vendor also caught egregious errors with my setup and wrote me
about them.
If youre interested in price-comparisons or in racing me to the order
finish line to see how Amazon comparesI picked free Super Saver Shipping,
though if I were a real library planning to use Amazon regularly, I'd spring
for Amazon Primehere are the two books I ordered:
American Map 2006 United States Road Atlas: Large Scale-Large Type ISBN:
0841628017
Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic ISBN: 0618477942
I hope most of you purchase Fun Home for your libraries. Ron Hogan, who
writes for the noted Galleycat blog as well as Beatrice.com, gives Fun Home
an enthusiastic thumbs-up, its got five stars on Amazon, and the NYT liked
it as well. I'm also curious to see how the vendor handles the
classification for this "graphic novel-memoir" by well-known cartoonist
Alison Bechdel.
The atlas claims to be very readable, and the user reviews support that. I
dont know how you could go wrong with that, unless you want to wait for the
2007 edition, due out in late September (we need it now, for a road trip).

How are you paying? We set up a corporate account with Amazon and have never
had a problem with the sales tax exemption issue. When I go into Amazon to
order, I just indicate that Im using my corporate account, and we get a
subsequent bill that includes no sales tax.

Have any of you tried Amazon's library services? Are there advantages?

We have experienced a problem purchasing from Amazon because of tax-free
status. We get an invoice for each shipment, then we have to request a
credit for the tax for each invoice. They wouldnt take our tax number and
just omit the tax. When they broke strung out the deliveries and broke up
the order into a lot of small pieces, this became a deal breaker for us.
Has anyone else been able to fix this problem???
