We hire an independent contractor for each of of our buildings. We bid it
out and usually hire the low bid. Thus, the quality of work done by the
person hired varies. If we get someone who does a great job, it's rare. I've
also found that after about three years, the individual gets complacent and
the quality of work deteriorates. We have need of someone now, but can't
find anyone. Our county is in the middle of a "boom" and people don't want
this type of work--even if we're willing to pay competitive wages. We've
tried having someone on staff, but that didn't work out well either. Our
local cleaning service turned down a request for services as they can find
workers either.
Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a
summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds
float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.
