[Publib] Cell Phones in the Library

Lise-
We do three things: We post a small sign on our front door and inner
lobby door that says "Please turn off your cell phone before coming in
to the Library." We have a cartoon from Library Journal or American
Libraries of a Circulation desk with a sign the says Cell Phone use
prohibited and also shows the librarian holding a smoking gun and a
patron looking at the decimated cell phone in his hand. And then we
tell violators to take their call outside or turn their phone off. The
monitoring is a bit of a pain, but we have managed to train the patrons
that we don't back down.
We use information, humor and enforcement. The humor part is very
important.
